Arc Flash Analysis and Safety Assessment

Objective

Ensuring safety in electrical systems requires understanding the potential risks of arc flash incidents and their severity. This study focuses on assessing these risks to implement effective safety measures and ensure that protective equipment is appropriately rated. Our goal is to protect both personnel and equipment from the hazards associated with arc flash events, thereby enhancing overall safety in industrial and renewable energy environments.

Methodology

Incident Energy Calculation: We calculate incident energy levels and arc flash boundaries using detailed fault current analysis and protective device coordination.
PPE Specification: Based on the analysis, we specify appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) levels for personnel to mitigate risks effectively
Tailored Safety Recommendations: We provide actionable recommendations to enhance safety measures, including adjustments to equipment protection settings and operational practices.

Examples

  • Performed arc flash analysis for manufacturing facilities’ electrical distribution system. We identified high-risk areas, determined incident energy levels, and recommended safety measures, including upgraded PPE requirements and adjustments to protection settings to reduce arc flash hazards.
  • For a 150MW solar farm substation integrated into the grid, we conducted a comprehensive arc flash analysis.
  • We carried out arc flash studies for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities connected to a hybrid renewable energy plant.

By applying detailed analysis and adhering to industry best practices, we provide valuable insights to improve electrical system safety, reduce operational risks, and ensure the protection of personnel across various sectors.
